How it works
What is hydroseeding?
Hydroseeding sprays a custom slurry of seed, mulch, fertilizer and water onto prepared soil. The mulch holds everything in place and protects the seed while it sprouts. Read more about hydroseeding →
What’s in the mix
- SeedBlended to your site: lawn, native, reclamation or erosion mix
- MulchFibre that holds moisture and acts like a small greenhouse over the seed
- FertilizerFeeds new roots from day one
- WaterCarries the slurry and keeps seed in contact with moisture
- TackifierBonds with the mulch to form a protective layer that stays put on slopes
From spray to first cut
- Day 0Slurry applied in one even pass
- 10–14 daysGreen shoots appear, depending on rain or watering
- 4–6 weeksReady for the first mow
Getting your site ready
- Remove existing grass and weeds where possible
- Level and rake at least 4 inches of topsoil
- Clear debris, large rocks, leaves and sticks
| Hydroseeding | Sod | Hand or broadcast seeding | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | Lower than sod | Highest | Lowest up front |
| Germination | High; mulch holds moisture | No germination needed | Patchy; seed dries out or blows away |
| Slopes & erosion | Tackifier holds on slopes | Hard to lay on steep ground | Washes off in heavy rain |
| Large areas | Fast, even coverage | Slow and labour heavy | Uneven coverage |
